Author's Instructions
AMERICAN ENTOMOLOGICAL INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS

Since 1961, the American Entomological Institute has published Memoirs of the American Entomological Institute and Contributions of the American Entomological Institute. The focus of the Institute's journals is arthropod systematics, with the aim of providing a publication venue at minimal cost.

Appropriate subjects for Memoirs are monographs, catalogs, large revisions, and comprehensive faunal treatments. There is a minimum of 300 published pages. Page charges are waived and the author receives ten free copies; up to 20 additional copies may be purchased at a 40% discount.

The Contributions takes smaller papers. The minimum number of published pages is 32. Each paper is separately printed and paginated. There is a page charge of approximately $20/page (depending upon the price of paper, author's use of halftones, etc.); 100 copies are provided to the author as well as a pdf that the author may freely distribute. Additional reprints are $5/page per 100.

Interested authors should contact the Institute and include a few sample pages. While style and organization are up to the author, the Institute has some format requirements as outlined below. If it is agreed that a manuscript is suitable, the author should send three copies (line numbering should be used) for review; authors are encouraged to submit names of possible reviewers. After review and editing, a final camera-ready copy is submitted with the specified format requirements. A volume number will be assigned upon acceptance.

Illustrations may be submitted as either camera-ready pages or electronic copy.

- Camera-ready pages. Illustrations should be submitted flat, never rolled or folded, with the final camera-ready copy. Plate size should be kept manageable and suitable for shipment through the US mail without being damaged. Proportions of plates and illustrations should conform to the print block proportions of 5.4 x 8.2 inches (13.8 x 20.8 cm), taking figure captions into account. Authors are responsible for calculating necessary reductions for each plate and labeling the plate cover accordingly. Mount line drawings and halftones on separate plates. Figures should be numbered consecutively. The back of each plate should be labeled with the author's name and the title of the paper.

- Electronic copy. Files should be submitted on a clearly labeled CD so that they may stripped into the camera-ready copy by the printer. Gray-scale halftones should be 300 dpi (and certainly no less). Line drawings should be a minimum of 1200 dpi. Illustration pages need running heads, and figure captions should be properly positioned within the print block boundaries.
